Hours:

Job #1: Monday – Friday, 6:00AM – 2:30PM

Job #2: Wednesday, Thursday & Friday, 12:30PM – 9:00PM and Saturday – Sunday 6:00AM – 2:30PM

Job #3: Saturday – Sunday, 6:00AM – 2:30PM

 

Duration for Job 1: June – August/September

Duration for Jobs 2 & 3: June – November/December

Primarily outdoor work. Performs daily ground litter removal in City Plaza and outer CBD areas. Performs checks for vandalism, graffiti and needed repairs. Collects and disposes of trash and recyclables in CBD receptacles. Performs maintenance of various site furnishings and tree grates in CBD. Performs preparations and cleanup for various events in CBD. Performs landscape maintenance including weeding, watering, mulching, pruning and fertilizing of various plant materials. May perform preparations for flower beds in CBD and various parks. May perform mowing and trimming of turf areas in CBD and City Park. Cleans and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment. Cleans and maintains CBD storage and shop areas, break room and office facilities. Operates trucks, power sweepers, scrubbers, push mowers and cord trimmers. Uses and maintains various pieces of landscape equipment and hand tools. Performs other related duties as required. Duties are performed primarily in City Plaza and other CBD areas and various parks. May assist other CBD employees and Departmental staff.

 

Minimum education, experience and certification

Applicant must be well suited to outdoor work and have the ability to perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks under adverse weather conditions. Previous grounds maintenance experience preferred.  Applicant must be self-motivated and dependable, and have the ability to work under minimal supervision. A good work record and job stability is necessary. Applicant must be able to work well with others. Applicant must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Must pass criminal background check. 

 

City of Iowa City applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The City will begin reviewing applications on Monday, June 16, 2014. Applications should be submitted to Human Resources, 410 E. Washington Street, Iowa City, Iowa 52240.
