Help The Crisis Center at Iowa City Hy-Vee's on Saturday

Media Release

Just one food item can help provide food for the more than 800 families seeking food assistance each week at The Crisis Center Food Bank. The three Iowa City Hy-Vee stores will have volunteers Saturday, July 13 at the entrance collecting donations from 9:45 am - 2:30 pm. Donations are being sought to help reach The Crisis Center’s 90,000 pound goal set for the Thanksgiving in July 15th Annual Community-Wide Food Drive. Financial donations will also be accepted as every dollar donated will purchase four pounds of food.

“We are very thankful for this opportunity to work with the Hy-Vee’s in Iowa City. This allows us to spread the word that there are families in Johnson County that do not have enough food. If everybody at the grocery store on Saturday donates one item, it will make a huge difference to these families,” commented Food Bank Coordinator, Stefanie Bell. “We are truly thankful for all the community does to help our neighbors in need, including staffing these tables.”

Community members are assisting with these efforts and Grace Community Church in North Liberty will be present at the 1st Avenue Hy-Vee, Clear Creek Amana students will be volunteering at the Waterfront Hy-Vee and Crisis Center Food Bank volunteers will be collecting donations at the North Dodge Hy-Vee.
