Jazz After Five was conceived by local jazz musician and University of Iowa music professor Brent Sandy. Sandy, who has played with groups all over the world, wanted there to be an outlet for jazz lovers of all ages and tastes so he came up with the idea of having an early Friday evening Jazz show.

The Mill Restaurant, located on Burlington Street, is a full-service restaurant and bar that strives to be as "green" as possible. The menu includes customer favorites like Spanish Garlic Pizza, Denver Omelet, Spinach Calzone, Vegetarian Black Bean Sandwich and Mill Lasagna. During the spring and summer, on Thursdays, The Mill offers meals cooked with ingredients that are locally grown and purchased at the Iowa City Farmers Market.
