University of Iowa has a series of public events leading up to the opening of its new outpatient clinic in the Iowa River Landing district in Coralville.

You've probably seen it slowly emerge from a hole in the ground to a shell to a tall glass-sided structure every time you drive on Interstate 80. The building is hard to miss. It sits to the southeast of exit 242.

On Thursday, school and hospital leaders, and others, formally dedicated the five-story, $73 million clinic. On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the public is invited to an open house.

The clinic is located at 105 E. Ninth St. in Coralville, close to the intersection of First Avenue and Interstate 80.

The services provided at the clinic will range from primary care, including general pediatrics and general internal medicine, to specialties such as cardiology, dermatology, urology and women’s health.

The clinic’s amenities include free, convenient parking, a coffee shop and nearby retail stores, restaurants and museums.

The clinic is projected to eventually accommodate up to 300,000 patient visits a year, and was necessitated by a growing demand and congested main hospital complex, university officials have said.
