An Iowa City man allegedly found himself in the backseat of the wrong car Saturday morning
Police arrested Jacob Thomas Mangan, 21, and charged him with public intoxication and interference with official acts, both misdemeanors, after he allegedly climbed into the backseat of their squad car, apparently under the impression it was a taxi cab.
According to criminal complaints, the officers were waiting at a traffic light at the intersection of Washington and Clinton Streets when they saw Mangan standing on the corner. Mangan then allegedly approached their vehicle, stumbling on the way, and then got into the backseat of their car. Mangan then quickly exited the vehicle, and allegedly attempted to run from the police when they told him he was under arrest.
The officer's report described Mangan as smelling of alcohol and having slurred speech. He declined to comply with a blood-alcohol test.
