Iowa Football Results: Week 4
The Iowa Hawkeyes played the Central Michigan Chippewas at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.
The Central Michigan Chippewas shocked Iowa at home with a come-from-behind 32-31 win in the final seconds.
Playing at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, the Hawkeyes had the game locked up with a touchdown and extra point to go up by eight, 31-23, with 2:18 remaining.
The Chippewas stormed down the field for a touchdown to make it 31-29. But, they missed the two-point conversion to tie the game with 45 seconds remaining, and it appeared all but over. Central Michigan failed at an onside kick, but a penalty flag on the Chippewas for delay of game gave them a second opportunity, which they converted.
A devastating 15-yard personal foul penalty on Iowa and a nine yard run by Chippewas quarterback Ryan Radcliff, set up the winning 47 yard field goal by David Harman with 3 seconds remaining.
Iowa's lone bright spot was another spectacular performance by walk-on Mark Weisman, who was forced into a starting role after a series of running backs went down. Weisman racked up 217 yards rushing and three touchdowns for Iowa.
The Hawkeyes drop to 2-2, while Central Michigan improves to 2-1. Iowa next plays Minnesota (4-0) on Saturday at Kinnick. Kickoff is at 11 a.m. (central).
