Iowa City to Host Iowa Mid-Winter Iowa Special Olympics Tournament this Weekend

Iowa City is serving as the host city for the 24th annual Special Olympics Mid-Winter Tournament this weekend, which is expected to draw nearly 1,000 Special Olympics athletes from across the state of Iowa.


Iowa City is serving as the host city for the 24th annual Special Olympics Mid-Winter Tournament this weekend, which is expected to draw nearly 1,000 Special Olympics athletes from across the state of Iowa. A total of 36 athletes who are members of the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department's Special Populations Involvement (SPI) Program will compete.

The public is invited to attend the event on Saturday, March 16 at the University of Iowa Field House to cheer on the athletes and show support for the competitors. Doors will open at 8 a.m., with the tournament expected to get underway about 9 a.m. Events will include basketball skills, team basketball, cheerleading, gymnastics, and powerlifting.
