Iowa City Police Welcome New Officer to the Force

The Iowa City Police Department welcomed a new police officer during a swearing-in ceremony held Monday, February 4, 2013 at City Hall.

The Iowa City Police Department welcomed a new police officer during a swearing-in ceremony held Monday, February 4, 2013 at City Hall.

Eric Nieland, 26, is from Iowa City. Officer Nieland received an Associates of Arts Degree in Law Enforcement from Kirkwood Community College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Mount Mercy University. For the past three years Officer Nieland worked as a police officer for the Muscatine Police Department. He will complete the field training program with the Iowa City Police Department prior to permanent assignment and is assigned Iowa City Police Department badge number 68.

Officer Nieland was hired to fill a vacancy created by personnel turn overs within the police department.
