Coralville Kum & Go to Offer $1.84 a Gallon Gas as Criticism of President Obama

A campaign event sponsored by the conservative group, Americans for Prosperity, will offer the gas at a low price for a limited number of vehicles on Monday.

A conservative political action group is hoping to bring sweet memories of lower gas prices back to the forefront of the presidential race.

Regardless of your political affiliation, it might be a good time to fill up on some cheap, subsidized gasoline.

According to the Des Moines Register, the Americans for Prosperity will be offering $1.84 a gallon gas (the price they say a gallon of gas was four years ago) as a criticism of President Barack Obama's policies as part of their "Obama's Failing Agenda" tour.

Gasoline will be limited to the first 150 vehicles and each car will be limited to 15 gallons, said Mark Lucas, Iowa director for Americans for Prosperity, which was co-founded by wealthy political activists Charles and David Koch.

The idea is to highlight Obama’s “failing green energy policies,” and point out that the price of a gallon of gas was $1.84 a gallon four years ago, Lucas said.

One participating local gas station will be at the Coralville Kum & Go Coralville, 822 1st Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24. Organizers will be on hand to hand out brochures and circulate a petition.

There will also be similar events in Waterloo and Ames.

As for gas prices, you can see how they've progressed here on this chart from the Consumer Energy Report. After staying relatively stable between 1980-2000, gas prices have gone up under President Obama as part of a surge in gas prices that started under President George W. Bush.

Is anyone going to point out that gas was at least a dollar higher than they claim in 2008?

It was more than $1 higher. I distinctly remember gas prices right around the price they are now this time in 2008. I moved to WI the summer of that year and I paid OVER $4 per gallon just after I moved there. A new college graduate waiting for her first paycheck does NOT forget something that expensive, haha.

Way to throw the last parting shot at GW. Solid, solid work.

Got to remember the Dems were running congress at that time. So--maybe they did it.
