Board of Regents: Mason Contract Not Renewed, Concern Over Recent Problems

UI President Sally Mason has been criticized in recent weeks for the university's handling of a recent scandal.

Radio Iowa and several other media sources are reporting that the Board of Regents have confirmed they have not renewed University of Iowa Sally Mason's contract at this time as part of a message that they expect improved results from the recently embattled Mason.

Regent Craig Lang is quoted by Radio Iowa:

Lang says there are a number of things the board really wants to work with Mason on to improve. Lang says, “We want to see improvement in outreach across the state, we wanted to see improvement in relationship building with the Iowa Legislature, we also want President Mason to show us her goals that she felt could be accomplished as it relates to the University of Iowa. And so during that process and period, we didn’t feel it was appropriate to give her any length of contract.”

Lang and others have also been critical of former academic advisor Peter Gray, who has been accused of a sexual misconduct.

The University of Iowa found itself with more negative news last evening, as reports were published showing the faculty of the College of Education voted no confidence against its dean, and university officials may have ordered the destruction of documents critical of her.
