Arrest Made in Connection to Armed Robbery of Creekside Market

Police charged the man they say was the look out during the crime.

Iowa City police have arrested and charged a transient for his involvement with the last month.

According to an Iowa City police criminal complaint, Daveon Curry, 18, address unknown, was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, joint criminal conduct, and assault with the use or display of a weapon for allegedly serving as a lookout while another man threatened a female cashier with a knife and made off with several hundreds of dollars in cash. First-degree robbery is a serious felony.

The criminal complaint states that on Feb. 22 at 11:02 p.m., Curry was standing in front of the store keeping watch while an unnamed co-defendant entered the store, grabbed the female cashier and held a knife to her throat, saying to the woman that she "had five seconds to get the money or he was going to cut her throat wide open." This robber has yet to be caught, according to police.

Both Curry and another co-defendant stated to the police that Curry was there acting as a lookout at the crime, according to the criminal complaint. Curry allegedly received $40 as his cut for his role in the crime.

Iowa City Police Lt. Kevin Heick said the other co-defendant police have talked to about the incident was not the man police suspect of commiting the crime. Heick did not have information on if this was a third person involved with the crime or who they might be. Heick said the robber remains at large.
