Endorsement: Weipert has Financial Experience
In 1977 when Tom Slockett became Auditor of Johnson County, we had a population of under 80,000 and a budget and staff much smaller than today. Currently, we have nearly 135,000 residents and a budget and demand for services that increases daily. We need an Auditor that is fully engaged in the financial management of the County and is a partner in putting in place the policies needed for a $100 million budget.
Travis Weipert will bring a rich history of financial accounting and auditing to the Johnson County Auditor’s Office. Travis is a Senior Accountant at AEGON and oversees accounts that total about $900 million. He understands the importance of accounting and financial management and how to implement necessary changes. Travis will make the Auditor’s office the financial partner the County needs to manage our budget efficiently and responsibly. Johnson County simply can’t afford not to have in place the best financial policies and procedures for a steadily growing county. Unfortunately, Tom Slockett has been a roadblock to modern financial management.
Tom Slockett was visionary in his day, but after 35 years we need a change and a more modern approach to financial management. I believe it is time to thank Tom Slockett for his many years of service to the people of Johnson County, and to vote for Travis Weipert for County Auditor in the June 5th Democratic Primary.
